Hey. Just searched "BioShock Poetry" after creating a BioShock poem myself (see website) and found this. Not bad. A new project of mine is to convert all of my favorite (and some of my less favorite) games into works of poetics. Glad to see others are joining in.

I've been a gamer as long as I could remember. People would often ask me when I was younger if would ever "grow out of gaming" or "still like them" 10 years from now. Here I am and I'm still gaming. I've been through some rough times in my life and games are the first thing I fall back on. Same thing for whenever I'm just in a bad mood or feeling down. I realized how much I really loved games when I went three weeks without them. I spent that time thinking about all the stuff I could be working on and was trying hard to find something else to fill in the free time I had. It was nice though to take a break and find other stuff to do.

I think playing games for me has become more of a habitual thing in recent years. I don't think of myself as hardcore a gamer as I once was, as evidenced by my large number of unfinished games. Games are great for even a brief escape from reality nowadays, I think we can all agree on that. In regard to what Sobou said, no matter how hard I rage at a game, getting past rage-worthy parts makes the rest of a game experience so much more enjoyable, and Moku's speak of finding inspiration in games is something I like to apply to my writing sometimes.

Anyway, it's great that you've found something that lets you relax and deal with your life. We all look forward to hearing more about your gaming exploits in the future. ^_^

I don't have these things. But then again, I'm the son of a pediatrician. I started playing games since I was five, on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

I had a huge history of temper problems, however. I stopped around the time I started High School, because those outbursts had finally gotten me expelled. Oddly enough, I don't regret it one bit. I needed to be... a violent extrovert. Those kids were all jerks, and they needed the wake-up call. Similarly, I needed to be expelled to get my own wake-up calls. I got two.

If Tenks prepared a momentary thing for me to post in RDE, I'll make a post detailing my background that I won't likely bring up ever again, if you guys are interested in how Loco got... Loco.

I don't pretend to understand the human mind, but hey, maybe you guys can psychoanalyze me on your own and draw your own conclusions.

I like this post quite a bit. I'm interested in seeing why most people play videogames. It isn't something you just one day pick up and do. If you keep playing them obviously you must have a reason. They must bring some kind of alleviance to our lives.I for one use them to enhance my creative aura, to give me inspiration. Which is part of the reason I don't like to stream most games, because I need to be focused, I want to analyze. They add to my inspiration, and coax the muse inside of me. I could get a lot more pretentious here, but I think you get the point, and I tend to get a little too wordy a little too often.

I'm glad you have found a way to cope though. I believe that if you put enough commitment into it, you can get over your problems. Anyone can. It's a dreamer's idea, but that's what I am. : P

The first gentleman definitely appears to be a troll. However, through my powerful talent of observation, I can assure you he most certainly is not.

Good post. However, for me, video games can often also be a great source of stress. When the game rage gets heated, that is. Although I guess it's still technically distracting me from real life stuff, so in a way it's still helping...either way, vidya games are king. It just sucks when we gotta turn them off and return to the real life stuff.

I use them much in a similar way to help me mentally. I'm generally quite happy during my day, but a video game can flip me to raging swearing pissed-off mode. Compared to that, not much else can really get me angry, or even angry enough to yell let alone rage.

Goes to show that we can trick our minds into a form of mental health and therapy, and that they can be akin to a psychological drug that benefits the health.

Loved this post, Ayai, and I'd like to see more. Psychology/Mental Matters + Video Games is always interesting in my book. :ahoy:

Whoa, you know I never thought of games in this way, but now that I think about...I'm the same way. Games, even ones that frustrate me, can calm me down more so than anything else.

I'm sure a lot of people feel pretty similarly about this, but I guess I never thought about it before, haha. Great post nonetheless!

I remember during spring break, I passed out in the middle of a Barnes and Noble and got sent to the hospital. I was dehydrated, but they found something else that required me to go another hospital to get an ablation. I had to check in around 5 AM and stayed in the hospital until 11 PM that night. I brought my PSP with me and played nothing but Crisis Core. It was a great choice because I made a lot of story progress and did a lot of the missions. It beat watching stuff on TV. There wasn't much on that day other than Tango and Cash on one channel and Failure to Launch on another channel. So glad I had my PSP.

What a way to spend my spring break this year.

At least I beat Crisis Core at the end of spring break.
