My copy of Ecclesia was purchased when it first came out in the US, but I didn’t get around to playing it until the start of August ‘09. Overall, it was an enjoyable play, though it did have a couple of drawbacks that prevents it from being one of my favorites.
There are a few things about Ecclesia that made it very appealing in my eyes. First off was the main character: Shanoa. It’s always nice to see a mature woman in a game, even more so to have her as the protagonist. Another thing was the change in art style. The previous two Castlevania DS games featured anime style artwork for their characters. While I don’t have anything against said art style, I really didn’t think it fit the darker atmosphere and settings of the series. Thankfully, Ecclesia sports a more gothic style of artwork and it really does lend itself well to the game. Read the rest of this entry »
